Angus Carlyle is a Reader in Sound Arts Practice at the University of the Arts, London and is Co-Director of CRiSAP.
In general terms, Angus’ work explores the intersections between culture, technology and creativity. More specifically, he is interested in how our constructed ‘landscape’ modulates a sense of the relationship between human beings and the environment.
He is currently supervising 9 doctoral students at the University of the Arts. Two of his students, Rob Flint and Axel Stockburger, have successfully completed their studies.
He has lectured at various institutions in Europe, was a judge on the 2001 Economist magazine writing competition and on the 2002 backup digital arts festival in Germany. He was an editor for the European fashion magazine, themepark and has written for the Institute for Contemporary Art, The Wire, Black Dog Press, Hotshoe International, Eyemazing, Photoworks and Creation Books amongst others. His work has been translated into German, French, Portuguese and Japanese.
He has exhibited sound art at the DCA Gallery in Tucson and the Zeppelin Festival in Barcelona, in the High Desert Test Sites in Joshua Tree Valley, on ResonanceFM, at the Placard Festival and on the M25 motorway. His compositions have recently featured on the Aphasia Bend It Like Beckett compilation celebrating that Irish writer’s centenary and on the Acoustic Tribute to Bear Bruno (Gruenrekorder).
He is currently finishing a book on the art/pop band The KLF and working on an edited book about sound and the environment, provisionally entitled Autumn Leaves. Angus is slowly assembling material for a solo electro-acoustic album, to be released in 2007.
