Creative Research into Sound Arts Practice (CRiSAP) is a research centre of the University of the Arts London dedicated to the exploration of the rich complexities of sound as an artistic practice.

 

Our main aim is to extend the development of the emerging disciplinary field of sound arts and to encourage the broadening and deepening of the discursive context in which sound arts is practised.

Research Feature: SoundWords

SoundWords (soundwords.tumblr.com), is a blog for phonographic writing that attempts to write about sound and the listened to without simply relying on adjectives and adverbs, (loud, quiet, noisy, harsh) but by expanding sentences, inventing words and neglecting grammar to accommodate the invisible ephemerality and passing nature of sound.

Member Profile: Salomé Voegelin

Prof. Salomé Voegelin is an artist and writer engaged in listening and hearing as a socio-political practice of sound. She is the author of Listening to Noise and Silence: Towards a Philosophy of Sound Art, Continuum, NY, 2010, and Sonic Possible Worlds: Hearing the Continuum of Sound, Bloomsbury, 2014. Other recent writings include ‘Sound Words and Sonic Fictions: Writing the Ephemeral’ for the forthcoming Routledge Companion to Sounding Art, Klangkunst als öffentliche Kunst’, in Labor Mühlheim Künstlerisches Forschen in Feldern zwischen Prekarität und Kreativität, Jovis Verlag: Berlin, 2015, and Sound Walking the Museum: A Sonic Journey through the Visual Display’, in the The Multisensory Museum, Alta Mira Press, 2014.
